Kendal and District Cycle Scene was set in motion in June 1993. We are now an active and dynamic group with a growing membership of over 100 members.
Our aim is to promote cycling in and around Kendal as a healthy, environmentally friendly and enjoyable mode of transport.
The group actively promotes cycling for work, shopping, school and leisure. We organise a regular programme of leisure rides at weekends and on summer evenings usually within the Kendal area. The rides vary in length from 15 miles to 45 miles (occasionally longer).
Cycling is not just practical, not just a pastime, not just a passion - it is a perfect partnership. It is sustainable. It is satisfying. It is an ideal social activity. We aim to promote the wide benefits of cycling accordingly by campaigning, meetings, slideshows, leisure rides and other events.
The KDCS have previously worked closely with the local authorities in drawing up plans for an elaborate cycle network within the Kendal environs. The network plans were considered to be some of the finest examples put together by a cycling group in the whole country. KDCS continue to campaign for full implementation of cycle routes throughout the area.
KDCS is also affiliated to the Cyclists’ Touring Club (CTC) through which we take out Liability Insurance for our ride leaders. We encourage members to join the CTC as either Full, Family, Senior or Concessionary Members, or to take out Individual Affiliated Membership (IAM) through us at the much lower rate of £16 per year. Not only is this more affordable for individual members but the cost of KDCS Liability Insurance falls as we recruit more IAMs. IAMs do not receive personal copies of the CTC bi-monthly magazine but this is available online on the CTC website. Any CTC membership also includes Third Party Insurance and discounts on selected cycling kit.
The strength behind KDCS is the wide diversity of its members who share the commitment to promote cycling in Kendal and its surrounding district. We do hope local cyclists will continue to join us.
